The sequence of the manifestation of the fundamental forces, seen and heard in their gnosemic activity, is as follows: motility/wind (rlungYAM), heat/fire (me-RAM ), cohesion/water (chu-BAM ), and solidifica tion/earth (sa-LAM). This sequence of the fundamental forces in shaping the universe, including the human being, is presented in the Pancakrama (I, 1 9 -2 2 ), a work belonging to the group of texts classified as father-tantras, which deal primarily with the developing phase and emphasize appropriate activity in the sense of planning and designing.
T o the extent that this potential is experienced as an evolutionary thrust toward the system’s optimization, transcending the-opposites of samsara and nirvana by comprising them, it is referred to as fulfilling phase. O f this evolutionary thrust the Hevajratantra (II, iv, 3 2 -3 4 ) de clares: This is samsara, This is nirvana. Elsewhere than in samsara Nirvana is not understood. Samsara is shapes, and sounds and so on. Samsara is feeling and the other psychic operations. Samsara is the sensory functions.
